Selection of methods for determining the rotation center of the hip articulation for the design of a custom acetabular prosthesis

The design of a custom acetabular prosthesiscomponent for the hip joint is a very complex process which requires close cooperation between engineers and surgeons. In order for the prosthesis to be durable, it has to meet many mechanical and biological requirements,an important one beingthe to respect of theanatomical center of rotation[1]. This paper presents methods for determining the hip rotation center and how different methods where chosen for different possible cases.
